Historic Cupola to be Restored

Grand Island's second Town Hall, pictured, was built in 1937. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the current Town Hall, the historic 1937 cupola (also pictured) will be restored and featured in the annual 4th of July parade and birthday festivities.

The cupola, an iconic part of old Grand Island used as a lookout during WWII, will be on a float during the parade, and available for viewing during the birthday celebration (stay tuned for details). Supervisor McMurray donated the signage that will accompany the cupola down the parade route.

The Supervisor's Office is working with the Historic Preservation Advisory Board to organize the restoration and celebration. Anyone with experience in historic restoration is encouraged to contact the Supervisor at nmcmurray@grand-island.ny.us.
